952 Identified as Most Likely to Harm the Environment
The Pennsylvania Land Trust Association has reviewed environmental violations accrued by Marcellus Shale drillers working in Pennsylvania between January 2008 and June 25, 2010. The records were obtained via a Right to Know Request made to the PA Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
DEP records show a total of 1435 violations of state Oil and Gas Laws due to gas drilling or other earth disturbance activities related to natural gas extraction from the Marcellus Shale in this 2.5-year period. The Association identified 952 violations as having or likely to have an impact on the environment. 483 were identified as likely being an administrative or safety violation and not likely to have the potential to negatively impact the environment.
The report breaks the violations down by type. For example, of the 952 violations:
- 268 involve improper construction of waste water impoundments
- 10 involve improper well casing
- 154 involve discharge of industrial waste
- 16 involve improper blowout prevention
The report lists the 25 companies with the most violations as well as the 25 companies with the highest average number of violations per well driller.

Radiation-Contaminated Fracture Waste Water cover-up
The State Of PA and its DEP and the EPA and the big energy interests who are drilling for gas and State law enforcement officials and the media have lied to the residents of PA, NY and WV about the risks they are creating by this dirty, dangerous hydraulic fracturing process! The Texas drillers and their bosses have have come to the Marcellus Shale deposits of the three states mentioned above. Their lies are protected under the Haliburton Loop-Hole created to allow hydraulic fracturing pass as an environmentally safe technology. It is not safe. They are willing to contaminate PA’s pristine aquifer by injecting their own “secret” mix of chemicals, compounds and nano-particles and what have you using millions of gallons of our drinking water and pump this stuff 3,000 to 5,000 feet down into the gas-bearing layers of the shale. The entire chemical cocktail is pressurized at these depths into what one research professor at the University of Pittsburgh has called “a new species” of chemical. Now I told you that story to tell you this story.
There exists in our Marcellus shale deposits at these deep
levels some things that are added into their cocktail! In
Upper New York State on Nov. 3rd 2009 13 gas wells tested
positive for radiation! The types of elements detected
were uranium and radium and radon gas. In Tioga County PA, in July 2010 28 cows were contaminated with “hot” frac
waste water that had leaked downhill from the gas drillers’
impound pond into a wash where the cattle drank the
tasty salt frac water. The news story was immediately
changed stating no dangerous chemicals were contained
in the “escaped” frac water. Tioga County is directly
south of the NY “hot” gas wells but across the state line.
There are more “hot” gas wells in Tioga County if my guess
is right. But PA government is on the side of the few
gas drilling energy companies owners who will benefit
from natural gas pumped out of our lands. The risk of
ground water contamination from “hot/toxic” hydraulic
fracture waste water is real. No waste water treatment
ever made can remove radioactivity from this “treated water”.
Our streams, our fish, our wildlife, our farmlands,
livestock, our drinking water and our childrens’ lives
are now under attack from gas drillers pollution and the
government is so poor they are playing along for a piece of the polluted pie! They are not caring about your health, or
welfare, just their profit margin and zero accountability
to the land and its people. Once radiation is spread,
it will make its way into our drinking water and crops
purchased as common sewage sludge from treatment plants.
They have forced us into a corner with their credit
scams. Now they are treating Americans like they treat
the citizens of the third world countries they pollute
in the rest of the Americas and around the world. THEY
ARE EXPECTING US TO ROLL OVER AS THEY TELL US LIES!
The legal burden of proof is placed on the party
polluted! IF WE DON’T EXPOSE THEIR LIES AND SINS
FOR PROFIT, OUR CHILDREN WILL PAY THE PRICE!
